i gave my 2 goldfish, Patches & Sushi, away to my neighbor and good friend because i am moving to the mainland and something really horrible happened! normally, i will stack a couple of rocks just under the filter where the suction part is, just so the fish cannot swim under there and risk getting their fins sucked into it (they're fantails). But when Stacy changed their tank this last time, she forgot to stack the rocks and Sushi's rear fin got stuck in the filter where the suction is the strongest and part of it was torn off!! i was mortified. she assured me that her fin would grow back, but i just didn't beleive that. is it true that fins will regenerate if something happens to them?

I think it depends on your fish's age and health. If it seems healthy, and is eating, I don't see a reason why they wouldn't regenerate..

juding from some of your past posts, i'm not so sure your water quality will sponsor fin regrowth.... you need really perfect params to get them to regrow quickly IME. melafix helps.

Another factor to consider would be how much of the fin was torn off? If it was completely torn off up to the base then there's little or no chance of it to grow back. If it was only torn off partially then it will regrow provided that water quality is good (also to avoid infection and such..) and that they are getting their fair share of their nutritional needs. :)

Good luck :dive2:
