I was at Walmart and saw small, pink parrot cichlids selling as Parrotfish and bought up a pair. These turned out to be a pink convict X blood parrot cross that I'm hoping were never dyed like Jellybeans. The male is pink throughout with the convict blue splash in the dorsal. The female has the orange belly but a gray blue band along the dorsal and pink throughout. They both have the parrot body, with immistakably convict faces. They are 1" to 1 1/2" inches long and are spawning for me for the first time. Has anyone ever bred these and what can I expect the babies to look like? I realize there are those that oppose hybrid husbandry, but I say if the fish lives and breeds, then it deserves a place in our tanks.......with purity of the original species maintained of course.

they are acctually the "true" jellybean parrots, but most people call them most people call them bubblegum parrots or something like that, but i call them true jellybeans. they are "narually" white, so pink ones were dyed, unless they are the "true" blood parrots.
they grow to about 4 inches long, and they are a cross between a convict male and a blood parrot female, and they have dad's bad attitue so watch out for that :D

They are pink like pink convicts so I am hoping they are not dyed.....I am totally against the dyeing of fish and hope I haven't inadvently supported that.....of course, with Walmart, who can say? I normally don't buy their fish, but couldn't pass these guys up. They are true to convict attitude too....in fact, they seem almost more aggressive. I suppose as soon as the eggs are layed I can expect the female to suddenly turn aggressive on the male like so many pink pairs I have had in the past......
