Dropsy?

My goldfish had been occasionally floating upside down, I thought it was just constipation, fed it peas. She still floated upside down around the tank, and had troubles getting back to the bottom. She stopped doing that, and now she is somewhat pinecone like, this would be like the last stage of dropsy right? Can it be helped at all?

I'm new to fish keeping, I'm not sure where to post this. =S

if it's very advanced, euthanisation may be the best recourse. I don't have much experience euthanizing fish, so don't ask me.

Its really hard to bring a fish back from dropsy and the best you can do is to euthenise.

Theres a lot of debate as to the best method but blunt trauma to the head is the best way along with decapitation. I couldnt do that myself so would suggest clove oil which you can get at a chemist/pharmacy for toothache. Mix 19 drops with enough water to cover the fish and put it in.

I have a goldfish (fancy) that recently started swimming upside down for part of the day. I fail to believe that it's need to be put to sleep. It seems otherwise o.k. Swim bladder issue I'm thinking. Water changes are done weekly and they get goldfish flakes twice a day. A pinch. It freaks me out seeing it swim and rest on the bottom like that. Probbly freaks HIM out too.

For a fish with sbd you shouldnt feed it flakes as they cause gas to form in the gut.
Dont feed for 3 days and then feed with boiled shelled peas, squashed if needed.
Feed them on a sinking granular food as you dont want them coming and taking air from the surface.

I'll try that. Just gave him (her?) a few peas. I know I also haven't seem him poop much lately either...
