I had the same question about my new Rams the other day. This thread (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87903) is the one about my Rams, maybe it will help you out too.

the second ppic shows pink near the bellyif that is the case it's a she(female) also the black spot is speckled with blue dots..usually a female in blue rams.

Are these 2 different fish? If not, I vote male. The first pic shows a longer pointier dorsal fin, no dots inside the black splotch - they are on the outside- and no pink tummy. Hence a male...
When the lighting is just right, most of my males can show a pinkish purplish color on their tummies. Follow emg's great pics and then look at your friends ram to decide.

I agree with Cathy, I'd vote male too. I was think the dorsal is too long and pointed to be a female.

wow.. ok thanks guys! :)
If you're really not sure.........the best way to tell is by the shape of the..ummm.....ovipositor/whatever the male's is called....lol...
The female will have a squarish shaped ovipositor.....while the males little...eh....thingy is small and very pointy.... :o
As far as the dorsal and all that........I've never found that to be very dependable in sexing rams. Check out the dorsal in one of the females in that first pic I posted...the female that's behind....
