Change in color of waste?

When I got my new tetra from the fish store, I noticed that their waste was white and very thin. After a couple days their waste is now brown and normal sized like all the other fishes. Out of curiousity is white waste normal for fish? Do the fish stores feed the fish differently to make the waste white instead of a more noticeable brown?

It's likely a difference between what you feed them and what the store was feeding them. Sometimes white stringy waste indicates internal parasites, but if they are producing normal waste now, it was more than likely dietary.

When my platies eat shrimp pellets they tend to get white waste, any other food and it is a normal brown.
