I already posted this at MFK but I always like to get as many opinions as possible before going ahead with something.

So would it work or not? It would be the only fish in the tank. I've been told yes at MFK but online research is telling me no. Thanks.

Mesonauta festiva grows to about 6 inches and a twenty gallon tank is, in my opinion, too small. i'd suggest that 40 gallons would be much preferable.

That's what I was thinking. I may just wait until next summer, built my goldfish pond and free up my 36.

IME, festivum grow slower than most cichlids, and the pair I have now are now about 3" long after having them for a year. They keep to a small corner of the tank and are quite territorial. For one festivum, a 20 gal may be a bit too small for a full grown fish, but a 29 gal would suffice so long as it is the only fish in the tank. My $.02
