Fish to put together in a 20g. future planted tank???

Hi and welcome Mike!

You can try platies, guppies, Gouramis(they can sometimes pull up plants), just about any type of small tetra so long as they have some open area to swim around in, killifish, or maybe some Harlequin Rasboras. A betta would love a planted 20 gallon too.

Hope that gives you some ideas!!!

Small fish are fine. I was checking out smaller tetras and cories for my 20L, plus a bristlenose pleco or some otos. You might also want to look at some centerpiece fish, like a dwarf gourami, if those small ones don't keep your interest up :).

My twenty gallon is heavily planted, on an Asian blackwater theme. I have or have had from time to time: gouramis, bettas, harlequin razzies, SAEs, danios, cherry barbs, gold barbs, yoyo loaches, kuhli loaches...

Naturally if you're going more community there are many tetras, corys, otos, etc.

Im in the process of setting up a 20G Apistogramma tank. Absolutely love those little guys. Probably 2 pairs if i can plant it heavily enough and a small shoal of pencilfish as dithers. Lovely jubbly.

in my 20 I have: See Sig:

Honey gouramis are not as colorful as others but they have a great personality. Well the males can get some nice color!

I added a second one last night and the existing one was right against the fish bag while aquamating her! Trying to get her new friend out of the bag. She tried everything, bumping it and nibbeling at it, swiming circles around it. She was very happy to have a friend to swim around the tank with once I released her. I have never sceen anything like it!
