I've been hearing a lot about refugiums, and I still don't understand fully what they are. So what is a refugium and what does it do for you?

It is an area in your sump where you can put a DSB, LR, and macro algae to help with nutrient export. It is also usefull for cleaner clams and to seperate a small fish that my need to heal a fin or something after a small tussel. Hope this helps and feel free to ask for elaboration if you would like.

Hi,

There are also hang on refugiums such as the CPR...These are awesome also ...Put some live sand into it. Live rubble rock (small of course)....(Cheato Algea ect...) Which removes nutrients from the water, so there is no algea blooms later hopefully. It's like a whole small world of your tank. Critters will love it :) And so will your tank. ~Good-Luck~ I wouldn't have a tank without one. I watch ours just as much as our tank.
