I'm completely new to rainbows and was wondering if they would work in a 29 gallon community tank? Essentially just neons, shrimp and guppies would be the other inhabitants. I'm completely new to them so any help is welcomed.

BTW, it's gonna be a planted tank  .

I'd say you'd be fully stocked without the rainbows.

You could maaaaaybe do a small school of praecox rainbows, celebres, threadfins, or furcatus. Leave the bigger sp. out. I think you have enough fish, though.

You don't even know how many neons and guppies I'll have in there. How can you say I don't have the room?

But thanks for answering the question :thm:

I was going off your sig which says you have 5 danios, 3 guppies, 2 neons, will be adding more neons, a ram, and some shrimp. Bio-load, you might not be maxed out, but compatibility-wise, you'll find it difficult to add another schooling species and keep it happy. A school of danios and a school of neons should be enough for a 30" tank. A school of super-active rainbows will just prevent everyone from eating enough and being very happy. The ram probably won't like all the action, either.

Oh, cool. Thanks for the interest. The plan is to get rid of the danios and get either rams or rainbows as a centrepiece fish. I guess if they're schoolers though it might not work out. I just love the look of them in a planted tank...

A school of one of the smaller species of rainbows (as above) would be fine in a 29g. Blue-Eyes would probably be better as they stay small and do better in smaller tanks. If your only other inhabitants are 2 neons, 3 guppies and shrimp (no ram) you could have a reasonable school of Rainbows.

actually I'm enlarging the neon school to about 10. I guess this isn't gonna happen.
