Water changes and dechlorinators

Just wondering how most people here do their water changes with a python?

My question is, do you add the correct dosage of Prime into the tank before filling it back up with the python (after you took out what you are taking out for the water change) or do you fill back up your tank and then add your Prime?

Just curious because I am planning on getting a Python once I get my tank up and going after my back surgery. :sick:
 
I add the water conditioner (enough to treat the full tank volume, not just what was removed) before adding the new water back in - have been doing so for some time and the fish and plants are happy as ever. :)
 
Webcricket, that is what I was going to do (dose for the whole tank). I was just wondering if I was on the right track. I know they say that you can't overdose the stuff and that it is better to put too much than too little.
 
Yep, you're on the right track! You'll love the Python - no more sloshing water out of buckets. Best of luck with the back surgery!
 
Thank you, they are just taking out a ruptured disc. Only have to stay overnight so hopefully it won't be too bad.
 
Back problems are a PITA. I have mild scoliosis - the sort that is bad enough to cause agonizing pain and occassional debilitation - but not enough to get anyone to believe me so I get accused of making excuses for not helping people move heavy objects. So good luck and feel better soon.

Just FYI - for those who don't want to use a Python, build a bucket stand. That's what I use - I have two stands which elevate the buckets above the tank level for my upstairs and downstairs tanks. Basically I use the hose to fill the buckets, dechlorinate, and then use a syphon to get the water into the tank.
