I have a 55 gallone tank that is 6+ months old. I used a new product last wednesday that clouded my tank. By the next morning some fish were dead and the tank was even cloudier. I did a 50% water change. I also checked water parameters. All was good. I did another water change on Sunday. I have lost at least a fish a day, sometimes two, since last Wednesday. Today when I got back from work my Beta was dead along with a neon tetra. I have lost tetras, some barbs and my Beta. I did my usual cleaning today. My water parameters are the same as they were last week...

Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0 ( why is this 0??)
PH 6.9
High PH 7.5

I had not lost a fish for months prior to adding the Tidy Tank by Kordon.

Any ideas what could be going on? The aquarium has a canister filter and has both live and plastic plants. I keep the heat at about 78 degrees.

I hoping someone might be able to help me with this.

I have always used Kordon Amquel plus and Novaqua plus and my fish have been happy and healthy. I had noticed lately that now matter how I vacuumed the gravel and did my weekly water change, that there was always decayed plant matter and sludgy stuff. The Tidy Tank is supposed to get rid of it. I contacted Kordon and they have asked me to send the product back so they can see if it is contaminated. Duh. I guess to heck it is. I'm bumming..my poor fish.

why do you have 2 ph readings? did the ph start going up and down after the chemical, or do you use a ph buffer or chemical to keep it at a certain place? if you do, you may be stressing out the fish with the ph going up and down all the time, 7.5 is a decent ph, and if it stays constant at that, or even 6.9 the fish will do much better than if it is going up and down all the time.

I just tested both my ph and high ph because it was part of my test kit. That readings stay constant. To be honest, I don't know the difference between the ph and high ph. Should I not be testing both?

My ammonia has stayed at a constant 0 reading. I tested it that morning I found the dead fish and have tested it every day since. And my fish seem to still be dying. The Beta seemed fine this morning and tonight he was gone.

You should use only one of the tests. If one test gives a reading at the end of the chart, use the other. As the high pH test kit cannot see any pH below pH 7.5, it's useless for you. The normal kit gives values between 6.0 and 7.6, which means that your value of 6.9 is well within range and thus the correct one.

As to your problem, your new product might have brought bacteria into your tank, if it was old. How do the fish die?

A couple of them have been dipping head down are somewhat pale and then die. The others seem fine and the next time I check the tank they are on the bottom dead. I don't know what to do. Could that product have infected my fish and they are all just slowly dying? The last fish I lost was a bumblebee goby. I'd had it since I started my tank. This is so upsetting.

I've done at least 3 water changes (2 of them 50%) since adding the Tidy Tank. I also changed the charcoal in my canister filter.
