View Full Version : Kalkwasser
My local marine fish shop introduced me to use Kalkwasser ( Powder form) to replacing of the using of Calcium and Magnesiem ( Liquid form)
Direction:
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of fresh water wait 24 hrs and add directly to filter tank for each 40 gallons.
Now, I got a clear water over the undisolved milky powder. What to do next? ( 1 lite of water I got it now )

add the clear part. do NOT add the undissolved part.
most people use something like a mini powerhead or water pump with the water input a little off the bottom to make sure none of that gets in. or you could jsut add it with cupfulls or osmething like an aquadose.

I use sling to suck the clear part and put in to the tank 5 ml each time, and also check the PH, I have only got animone and mushroom in tank. Is it really a need to dose such thing in the tank? If in case of maintain the level of ph is should be acceptable for me.

At the Lfs I work in we just siphon out the clear layer carefully. Its not to hard to do.

so far, I got around 600 ml clear part, then...... how much should I put in the tank?

I use a dripper system. I do not dose it all at once.
How many gallons is your tank?

About 15-20 ml every other day is about right but I do not like to add calcium this way withought testing levels first. The test kits are relatively cheap and will save you a lot of hassle.
Personally I would look into getting a dosing pump or a drip system.
Here is a link that may help a little as well

no. dont bother with Kalk unless you have something using a lot of it like a lot of sps. weekly water changes is more than enough Ca,Mg, and ALK additions to keep an anenome and some mushrooms. otherwise you are just unecessarily adding and your levels in those departments will be to high and actualy throw off your pH.
dont bother with Kalk unless you need it. and after being given the corals in your tank, you definatly done need it. if you are having trouble with pH, it could jsut be that your ALK or Mg is off. But you shouldnt also add Ca to the mix if you dont need it. If those levels are off, jsut buy a better salt. IO has a low everything. Even just upgrade to the reef crystals and you should be fine.
That what in my mind......... I just thought that the fish shop gave me the sucking things always
