Questions from a newbie.

I've started setting up my young son's 4ft 60 gal(US) tank to move his Malawi Cichlids into.

Previous post http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87880

When I set up his 13 gal(US) tank I used water filtered through drinking water filters, assuming it would be better, as our tap water is heavily chlorinated and taste pretty foul. I've continued to use filtered water for the water changes ever since.

My question is, is filtered water really necessary or a bit over the top? Filtering 60 gals, at 2 gals an hour max, once in a while is bad enough, but 24 gals at least once a week is going to be a real pain.

I've been wondering about installing a regulated continuous water change system (continuous trickle drain and trickle fill at the same time), does anyone have any experience/info on this.

Regards.

Use a good water conditioner to remove the chlorine and you should be fine.

What are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, GH/KH readings on the existing tank?

Same readings on your tap water before filtering?
