My three albino tiger barbs live happily in their 55g. Well i have noticed that the leader of the bunch is a female(after a good amount of research, i discovered it was female). Well is this normal? I just always thought males led the pack(i'm not being sexist).

Well yes i guess most female tiger barbs are bigger than male tiger barbs...i might be wrong?

Is it normal for them to lead their 'pack'?

3 albino tiger barbs..tiger barbs are a 'loose' shoaling fish..meaning they don't school like we see as a normal school. the female maybe carrying eggs..in which case the males maybe chasing/ following her.

btw, tiger barbs generally do better in shoals of 6 or more. ;)

Tiger barb females are the agressors in mating displays--this is actually true of many species, that females make the men prove their mettle. I've mentioned to you before that your tiger barbs could become a problem at anytime, without you noticing any change, just BAM and they are tormenting your other fish.

oh i know they do better in bigger schools, but you have to consider each individual tiger barb's personality. The three right now are: 1) Docile, they don't peck each other and they leave my snail and other fish alone, 2) They are doing so well, why introduce others, 3) They seem the best of friends, and they actually "school" sometimes with my blackskirts.

Wouldn't I have saw something yet happen with my tiger barbs? I have had them for 5 months.....

Not necessarily, I've had some for almost a year now down to 6 & 2 have chewed fins lately. Females are usually slightly bigger & way more greedy. Mine have always been more interested in food than breeding unlike the males although these I have now are more docile than past barbs. I suspect overbreeding.

Hello there. I had 12 tiger barbs before and the alpha position did shift every once in a while. Both males and females may take the lead. Something went wrong with them though. When this certain male took the lead.. he started annihilating everyone. I tried getting him a new school but he would have none of it as I saw him trashing everyone when I take a peek at midnights. You might want to observe them once in a while. Some fish do act differently when youre not observing them. Good luck
