Well, people will say that they don't have problems and like both. It really just comes down to a personal preference. I would go with Rena because thay have more gph than the fluval for cheaper. I mean, the fluval 304, the second largest fluval, is 260 gph and is $83.99 at pet solutions, while the Rena XP 1, the smallest, is 250 gph for $69.99.
Where'd you get that spec from?
According to Rena's site, the XP1 pumps 165 gph:

The biggest difference between the Fluval and the Filstar are the storage baskets, the disconnect action, and the priming function. It's whatever YOU like better.

I got that spec from every catalogue, including Big Al's, pet solutions, and dr. foster & smith.

I use both, the Fluval 404 and the Rena Filstar XP-3.
From my own comparison, the Filstar did a better job than the Fluval.

What about it? It's just like the others, great. It obviously is smaller. I plan on getting it in the near future and hooking it up to my u.v. sterilizer for more filtration and to have clean water going through the u.v. Go to the rena site as Nick mentioned and check out everything.
