The pond with some Triops
At science class today, i found out I was going to look at elodea leaves... they look suspiciously like anachris... but someone said that they can come from saltwater places... i asked my teacher if she can give me some plants and she said ok. And she said they were freshwater...

sooo...:
1)Are elodea plants anachris? (I REALLY wanted some anachris... just couldn't find them at my LFS...)
2)Are they freshwater or saltwater?
3)Should I trust her? I mean, if it's saltwater....
4)Can i put it in my tank?

Most plants sold as Anacharis are the former Elodea densa, now Egeria densa. But you can get different kinds of Elodeas and Egerias under that name. I don't know whether any of them are saltwater plants. I know that some of them are coldwater plants and not suited for the tropical aquarium. Just try it and see whether it survives :).

Edit: Here is an informative link.

As Ulan has mentioned..many times anacharis is referred to as Elodea Densa

I have tried a couple different Elodea. oddly I found in a LFS a plant labeled as "elodea" when in fact it turned out to be Hydrilla

I have been able to grow elodea canadensis in a tropical tank.

dang. and the specimen i got was labled (elodea).........

oh well... i can try putting it in my betta's tank? ugh i really want to add my betta to my tank......

My Betta lives happily in my community tank. he is nothing but cordial and a beautiful addition to my 90 gal community.

oh really?

i keep hearing reports that their betta ate their neons' eyes...

THAT'S what's restraining me...
