Would a 60 gallon tank be able to hold these fish fully grown

I think so. I've seen people with a ghost knife in their 55g and it did fine. A bala shark would work well too- though they do better in small groups. And I was never under the impression that clown loaches got that big.

depending on the dimensions a bala might be fine, but it wouldnt be a very good idea since they like groups and tons of swimming space.

Yes they would be fine.

I have had bala in comunity tanks just use precaution.

Cool, im probably gonna go with the black ghost as its soo cool. Im getting the tank for christmas my parents say "no" to it, but i know i can purswade them to allow me to have it as i always win. would it go with lake malawi cichlids?

your parents said 'no' to what?

the black ghost knife??

a clown loachs grow to be 12" long, therefore they need at least a 75 gallon tank, and they also need a group of at elast 5, so then you need to bump up the gallonage to at least 180.

bala sharks get big too- 14 inches, and they need ALOT of swimming space, and they like the company of their species also, so then you'd need a tank bigger than 100 gallons.

black ghost knives get even larger; they can easily get to 20 inches or more, so then you'd need a 150 gallon as a specimine tank (by itself) for it to be happy.

I had my BGK in with malawi peacock cichlids for months and they all did fine. I changed things around--SA 'tope with knife, severum and some cories--and he's still fine (although he and the sev have displayed to one another, threatening--still just boys, 5 & 6 inches). I'd just make sure the malawi are bigger than it's mouth--they have deceptively huuuuge mouths!!

bgks dont go with malawi cichlids at all. malawis need very hard water with a high ph(8.3-9.0) and bgks prefer a much lower ph and soft water. also malawis are much to aggressive and territorial, the bgk would propably end up fighting for a cave and lose. from my experience with them they are fragile fish. and that tank is to small imo anyway for any of those three fish, id just go with malawis.

I'm with jm1212 on this one. Essentially what he's saying is that if you want the fish to be happy, no, you can't have any one of them in a 60 gallon. ;)

I'd say you would be better off just with the cichlids, I think that's what it says the tank will be in your signature. you should probably go with that.
