I looked on the species profile here at AC and it states that angelfish are peaceful and need a minimum of a 30 gallon tank. But in reading some of the posts about angelfish using the search function, it seems like there are mixed opinions about it. Help me decide!

Until they grow up a bit they are relatively peaceful fish. The problem is they can become bruts when pairing up and spawning. I even had an individual fish
-that's one single fish - go after everyone in the tank when she was going to lay eggs. She'd hunt them out of every nook and cranny they were hiding in, and when I transfered her to my hubby's 75g, she'd drive every fish except the eel to 1/4 of the tank along on the far wall!

yup, they can be peaceful but ultimately they are cichlids.
I have some angels that tolerate everything in the tank..until they spawn.
I also have a few that attack all the fish in the tank.
but in general most of my angels are pretty calm..and tolerant of other fish in the tank.

Angelfish can be particularly agressive to other angels--so how many angels can fit in a particular tank depends on the particular angelfish. Also 30g standard tanks are a bit short for angels--a 38 is really a better height. Angelfish get a lot of height on them. I have a pair in a 38 that seem to have plenty of room, but it wouldn't be enough room if they didn't get along so well.

angles are fine in groups and by themselves.
after they work out the order, everything is pretty peacful, unless a breeding pair forms.
