What are the most active fish that can go together to form an "active community" so theres lots going on and lots of action in the tank thats fun to watch. All in a 30 gallon (present residents are moving out)

tiger barbs or blackskirts

most barbs are very active....you could try a tank with different species of barbs

Buenos aires tetras might be worth looking into. Only problem I've expierinced is, the rest of the "community" has to be composed of similary sized, fast swiming fish, who are also somewhat lacking in finnage. Other wise, you could end up with really nipped up fins or fish who are slowy starving.

Something like what I have (only smaller numbers, of course) should fit the bill nicely...

That isn't too much for the bioload, but I wouldn't put the danios in with the barbs--I have a 30g with 12 barbs in it. They are very active and full of color and action. They don't so much swim fast as play around and fight each other. Danios go zip zip zip, while barbs swoop and dart, and nip, nip, nip.
