I was planning on using Fluval 304 along with Penguin 350. Unfortunatley my Fluval 304 which I got used was leaking so I returned it. The question is, would it be better to use one powerful filter instead of using two. Which one is recommended? Also, can the fluval media be used with other filters e.g Eheim etc? Please help me out. Thanks!!

I use both a HOB and canister (AC70 and Mag 350). It appears that a lot of people use one of each. Having two allows one to be cleaned while running the other. I would think that having two pickups/returns in the tank will give better circulation than 1 large one.

I cannot recommend the Mag as it makes too much noise for me. Others have been very happy with it.

Definatly use two filters. I have two 55 gallon aquariums.

The first aquarium I setup I put one EMP 400 on it. One side of the tank always got dirty very quick. I put a small Regent 20 gallon on the other side and could not be happier with the set-up. The extra waterflow helps and you can go longer between filter cleanings.

My second aquarium I picked up from a guy with oscars. He had a Fluval 304 on the tank. The fluval does a great job but I added a second canister filter because of my experiance with my first tank. You don't need much but the dual canister filters are great! I am upgrading my other tank to dual canister filters as well.

BTW, get a Eheim! I am waiting for a new Eheim in the mail to replace my Fluval. Petsmart.com has great prices on the Eheim Classic models and the Eheim PRO II models.
