I don't know how I got ich in my tank! A few of my tetras have these white spots all over. I read about putting salt in and cranking up the temp to 85 degrees. I put in 20 tsps of salt into my 10 gallon tank. Will this get rid of it? How long will it take?
Couple of questions for you to answer if possible please -
1) Is ich what we in UK call White Spot?
2) I think my madagascar rainbows have white spot. I recently moved them from one of my tanks to another, and now 2 days later they've got spots. Does this mean I need to treat both tanks as it says in the ich article that white spots are the final stage of the disease?
Thanks and sorry for stealing your thread kaymm2
Forgot to say, none of the other fish in either tank are showing any symptoms yet
1) yes, people in the US call it white spot also BTW
2)it would be best to treat both tanks because you do not know if they got it before they were moved or after
Thanks for the info jm, much appreciated. I've not seen white spot referred to as anything other than ich on here so wasn't sure. I'll go to my lfs in the morning and get some supplies to treat both tanks.
Thats where I got the idea of salt from! Thanks. I'm on day 2 of my salt treatment. I hope it goes away in a week. My fish are still lively and i hope the stay that way...
