i was wondering if anyone has ever put a root tab in a HOB filter before? the idea is to put a cple root tabs in a HOB and the water will disolve the tabs releasing it into the tank. any advise will help or any opinions will be welcomed

Hi

Root tabs don't relase like that so puting it in you hang on back filter will do nothing for the plants. Root tabs are made so that plants like crypts and swords and take what they need from them as they need it.

Sure they do break down but once they break down they remain around the roost of the plants that need them and can use them by taking them in from there roots.

all tht makes perfect sense. i guess i was hoping for some type of slow release thing. thx for the help

You do not want root tabs releasing anything into your water table. It can result in a terrible algae bloom and make the water turn to a color similar to pea soup.
I alway recommend against the use of root tabs in any aquarium because they can cause more problems than they correct. I have grown beautiful 'root feeders' such as all types of Crypts. and amazon swords and never had the need to use rood tabs.
If you feel the need to use them, put them (into the substrate only) where you can remember were they've been placed and then don't disturb them until they spend themselves. This is usually 3 months time.
