Which Eheim filter is recommended for 55 gallon aquarium. Classic and Ecco are almost the same price but I am confused as to which one is better or if one has a benefit over the other. Help me out. Thanks!

I have 4 Eheim Pro II's. I have (2) 2026's on one 55 gallon with small cichlids and (2) 2028's on one 55 gallon with 2 large oscars. I absolutly love them and am glad I made the upgrade. They are extremly easy to prime and the media baskets make maint. a breeze. Also, they have a flow rate indicator so you can tell when you need to clean them. To top it off, they are virtually silent.

eccos have media baskets and classics do not. I prefer the former for maint. purposes. They're not as durable or silent as higher-end models, but the difference is barely noticable if you're more than 4 ft. away. I have two eccos and love them both.

I have an Ecco and a 2026 Pro II. Both are easy to prime. The Ecco hums slightly, the 2026 is completely silent. I've never had a Classic but I don't think I would want a cannister with no media baskets and I've heard they are harder to prime.

If you have the money, go for the Pro II - better to over filter your tank anyway.

How about Rena Xp2 or XP3

Is Rena XP2 or XP3 any good? I am getting a good deal on XP 2( $74) and XP3($89) I was wondering if they are any good.
