turbidity in tap water

I live in Vancouver and we've had extremely high rainfall lately, which has led to something being washed into our drinking water reservoirs, so I've heard. Tap water was brown for a day or two, then yellow, and now just cloudy (no color, just whitish) or turbid. From what I've heard, no one has gotten sick drinking the water at any time, but it doesn't look appealing to add to my tank.
That said, I have no more water left for water changes on my tank. It's been a week (the usual), and I'm sure the system could stand a few weeks without changes if absolutely necessary, but I'll already be going away for Christmas for two weeks in December.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had problems adding such water to their tanks? Would it be better to wait it out and hope it turns clear before Christmas?
If I need to test it before adding to the tank, what besides ammonia should I check for?

I'd check for ammonia, pH, nitrites and nitrates, maybe even phosphates. Munincipal water supplies have been known to do odd stuff on excessive rains to help maintain water "purity".

They often increase chlorine/chloramine dosage rates.

If you are doing a regimented weekly program of water changes keeping nitrates low, 2 weeks should be fine.

good point, I didn't think about that. I think I'll just take some water to my lfs and get them to test it for everything under the sun.

Yeah. I just didn't want to leave it any longer than that :P

You may want to add more dechlorinator. They've definitely added more chlorine to the water. I've tested for ammonia a few days ago and I didn't find any. I'll get to testing other parameters later (been really busy/lazy these days). I think the water is fine for the most part. I've heard of a few people here changing water in their tanks without seeing any stress on their fish.
