My goldfish has fungus... can I put some salt in his tank and how much?
Salt won't cure a fungus. If it were ich then it would. Look for an anti-fungus medication like one of the Maracyn products.

Is it proper cotton wool looking fungus or looks wispy?
Where is it on the fish?
Any chance of a pic?
Salt can be used to treat fungus and is good at it so dont know why you would say not to use it TKOS..
You must use either meds OR salt and not bot together.
Need to know as well how big the fish is, what other tank mates and is the fish ill or still as active.
Post back soon..

Well, the fungus was white and cottony, and I gave him meds, and then he was fine... but in the area he had the white fungus, there are black patches which I just noticed a day ago. His tank mates are a common goldfish and a shubunkin. The fish is only 2'' long and he is acting completely fine.

The black patches are the bits that have died and will grow back again. Keep the water really clean with regular water changes and it will get better.
You dont need salt now as the fungus has gone but if the black spreads then post back as you dont want the fins to rot away.
