The pet stores where I live only sell ones as long as this line:

But small cories die quickly, from what I hear.
I am getting a medium-sized community tank (30-55 gal.) and I want a school of cories (6-8 cories). Are there any tips on keeping them alive? I want to raise healthy cories and keep them alive...

Hi,
If your pet store sells them that big your lucky! My pet store sells them less them half that length. If you want really healthy Cories give them a variety of food like veggie wafers, shrimp pellets, and bloodworms. Give them many hiding places and smooth gravel or even sand. Do water changes about once a week also.
If you do all that, your Cories will be very healthy and happy!
Hope this helps!

I've never had any issues with that. Keep up with your water changes, don't let them get too cold (74°F or so) and feed 'em like Cory Lover said. You should be fine.
