hello all, i'm new hear and to the fish stuff. i'm learning fast though. well i have a 90 gallon tank and a aquaclear 500. when its turned on anything higher than the lowest setting it make this clicking noise. like there is something stuck in it or sand. but theres not i cleaned the crap out of it and it still make the noise. today i somehow got it to stop but i unplug it because i had to plug my christmas tree in and when i pluged it back in it started clicking again. what gives? anybody else have this problem or have a clue on how to fix it?

Did you pull the impeller out and check/clear the inside of the impeller housing? Also, check the impeller blades to make sure they are not damaged.

sounds like you need to remove the motor and clean the impeller and impeller housing.
The motor comes off by turning it 1/2 turn IIRC.

I had a similar problem with my aquaclear 500. I took the impeller out and found there was a slightly raised plastic seam that had peeled down and was flicking as the impeller spun. I'd take the impeller out and have a close look at it and the impeller housing.

one other option is.....well let me ask the question first. Does your tank have snails? I had a tank w/snails and one worked it's way up into the pump. To this day 50% of the time I turn the pump on (after feeding time) there is a "clicking" as you called it...which is the snail shell being bounced around and actually causes some problems with the flow of water starting.

I've taken it apart as best I can, and can't find the little bugger. It's been months, so I assume the snail is long dead, but I can't find the shell.

So maybe you've got the same thing?

i have snails but i had the sound be for the snails. i ask the guy i got it from and he said it made the noise he thinks, since he bought it. i took it apart and cleaned it up. besides some slime on it i couldn't find anything wrong with it. the magnet felt strong could it be the blade itself? when i push down real hard on the pick up tube the noise seems to go away. but i can't get it so squeeze down any more. any thought?

any body else have any ideas? its queit on low but all clicky on high. i found new blades but they didn't say what model it was for. they look the same size just diffrent design. do the new aquaclear 100 have the same balde piece as the aquaclear 500 or are they diffrent.
