need help with stock

i am a beginner and i have a 20gl set up for about a month now. i have 3 neon tetras, 2 black tetras, 2 dalmation mollies, a gold algae eater and an african dwarf frog. my question is, what, if anything else, can i add to this tank (not now, but in a few weeks)? any suggestions? i am planning on getting a bigger tank, maybe a 55gl, in about a year. i would like to get a bottom feeder to collect any extra food that makes it to the bottom, so if you have a suggestion there that would be great, too! also, if you make a recommendation i would like to know why so that i can learn as much as possible about these fish! thanks!

Hi,

Algae Eaters are mixed up a lot and called different names and it would be great if you could show us a pic. The reason I ask for a pic is that some algae eaters get too big for 20 gallons and some do fine in 20 gallons.

For stocking, I think you should add four Bronze or Peppered Cories. They are very peaceful and grow to about two inches normally. The pH should be between 6.7-7.4 and temp between 22-26C. Give them many hiding places and smooth gravel.

You should also add three more Neons because they really like being in
schools.

After the Cories and the Neons you would be fully stocked.

Hope this helps!

that does help! i did have 5 neons but i lost 2 as i believe my hubby (unknowingly) added them too early. i will be getting more tho. as soon as my algae eater comes out of hiding i will take a pic so you can see him.

Unless your algae eater is a Siamese Algae Eater, an Oto, or a fancy pleco, I would pull that from your tank because Chinese Algae Eaters, which is what I think you have don't eat algae and they get really aggressive.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure that that is a golden from a a Chinese Algae Eater. They get too big for a 20 gallon and can be aggressive. So I think you should deffiantley(sorry for the wrong spelling!) return him. And then you can get the other fish I recommended.

Happy fish keeping and good luck!
