I would like to know if anybody out there has had any success with buying quality driftwood over the internet. I live in a land locked state that doesnt seem to have any local dealers that can get their hands on anything.
What I have is a 29 gallon and a 30 gallon tall that I want to fill with mangrove root. I love the look, and it fits what I will be doing with the tanks. BUT, the only thing that I have run across so far has been the idea of GROWING my own mangrove. I really dont want to have to do that, as all I am looking for is the mangrove root system look.
Anyone with any ideas on where to look would be more than welcome.
Thanks in advance-

i don't know that being landlocked means anything. most wood for tanks that i've seen is imported and/or prepared by aquarium-product companies, not by local people. have you been to your LFS and asked if they would think of carrying wood? they may have different kinds listed in whatever catalog they get - the mopani root wood gives a nice riverbank look to the tank, a piece that i have extends from the back of the tank above the waterline down to the front of the tank and looks just like roots growing from the substrate.

otherwise you might want to check out floridadriftwood.com. they have real driftwood, not root wood.

Apparently, you dont live in a backwards land locked state whos idea of aquatics is goldfish. Therefore I will look at some mopani root and continue on. Thanks for your concern with my problem.

I've bought several peices from RockArtSource on eBay. The wood quality is excellent, the descriptions are very accurate and tell you just what you need to know, all the wood is WYSIWYG and they are very easy to work with.
Here's a link to thier store:

Thank you very much for your wonderful suggestion. I have added the link to my favorites and have already found a couple of peices that just might work.
Thanks again-

I have bought driftwood from azgardens.com and was very satisfied with my purchase. The piece came just as described and it was aquarium-ready; it didn't float or change the water color. Also, I think aquariumdriftwood.com has some pretty cool pieces, but I have not ordered from them so I can't tell you about the quality. Hope this helps some!

Petsmart carries several different sizes/patterns of fake mangrove roots. I have it in most of my FW/BW tanks.
