Hi everyone!

My two angels have been shaking their fins lately. Is this okay? Or is it a bad sign?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

are they facing eachother like they are going to fight, or just randomly?
sometimes mine shake their anal fins like they had an itch or something

Hi jm,

No. They are not usually together when they shake their fins.

they may be either showing each other up for dominance or they could be forming a pair.

its probably the first situation

Hi,

A while back they formed a pair. I don't think it's dominance thing.

Any other ideas why they are shaking their fins. Could it be a disease??

its probably not a disease, but if it was, it would be the whole fish shaking (a nerve disorder), not just the fins.

they are probably showing to eachother

Hi,

I just saw my one of my angels shake, and her body was shaking too. Could they be trying to shake something off their body??? Off topic, but does fin rot make fish shake??

no it doesnt make them shake. you might want to take a closer look at them and the water. she could have external parasites that are makeing her itch, or she could be getting stung my hydra

most of the time though when they have external parasites they flash against rocks, wood, etc. Are your angels flashing any or are they just shaking....my discus shake their fins at each other as sign of dominance

Hi,

Their shaking, not flashing. I've seen them do courtship displays and dominance things, but this is different. They just randomly shake their fins, especially their caudal fin. It looks like they are trying to shake something off. They have been doing this for the last couple of weeks, but before then they never did it.

mine(the males) do it when facing each other..I have two breeding pairs in a 55..it appears to be used to show threat.

it seems to be pretty common in tanks with several angels.

I've seen them do it when the water cools too.
