when will my pacus develope their red bellies? i have four the largest about 4 1/2" the smallest about 3" they had bright yellow fins edged in red which has now fadded to black but their bellies are still yellow. can i manipulate the ph and temp to speed things up? they seem too big to not have red cheeks :dive2:

when they get a little more older and longer.....for them....about 3-4 weeks.... what size tank etc?

i have a 125 gallon with a 6" rhino pleco a 2" reg. pleco an emerald cory cat a bronze cory a golden loach and 2 golden claw crabs.

you may know this.. but....they get Ginormus..you would need about 180G maybe per fish if not more

Actually they get tripple Ginormous--so each pacu ought to have a tank in the thousand gallon range. Really not a fish for the typical home aquarium. There was a thread back in the day where someone tried to keep upgrading tanks to match the growth of their pacu--they gave up after the 300g tank failed to contain the fish, which splashed out enough water to fry her TV. Also Pacus can live pretty long--ala the 28yr Pacu that another member had in a 3000 or so gallon aquarium.

yeah i know they get very big and right now i don't know what i'm going to do when the time comes.i love my fish though they're starting to come into there own. ginormous is right!

You just have to do what debramark did and build yourself a 3200 gallon aquarium. Pacu's are really big dumb beast like a giant silver dollar and they are just as skidish. A lot of people say they are the fish that coined the name tankbuster as they have readily been known to crack the glass of even a 180 if they freak and swim full on into it. Good luck with them I have know idea what you will do with them once they grow up which will only be in about a year from now.

It's an absolute shame that these fish are even on the market.

I don't think these fish should be on the market either. The only reason i got them was because i thought they were a good alternitive to the more vicious parahna. But thats how the stores market them.I see baby pacus in just about any fish store. Come to find out theses things grow like wild fire and can be just as destructive in a home aquarium. Advice: Always do your research on fish you plan to buy!
