I would maybe like to get some drift wood, fake or real, really doesn't mater too much to me. I am looking for one to go in as a center piece in my 20 gallon high. Don't want it to be too long either, maybe around 10 inches, and under 7 inches high. If it is fake, where can you get real looking ones, which you have. If it is real, how should I prepare it for my aquarium so it has nothing bad on it?

Help Really Appreciated!!!

Thanks!

The X-Large Gnarled Root

I would put it in my 20 gallon high tank (24" long x 16" high x 12" wide) with taller anacharis in the back and an amazon sword somewhere in the front corner.

If you have this specific one, does it look real and does it hold up well?

I had the x-large gnarled root and the large knotted branch from Drs. Foster & Smith in my 20 high tank before I switched to real driftwood and plants:

That's what it looks like in that size tank. I like the real driftwood in my tanks better now, but that fake stuff was okay. Try user name rockartsource on eBay for nice real wood.

Someone on here has some fake stuff for sale in the classifieds. Otherwise Ebay is the way to go. Some VERY NICE pieces on there for small money. I got an awesome piece that is great in my 20L and would be fine in your 20H for about 15 bucks delivered.

I was wondering if real driftwood rots over time...

Driftwood should not rot.

Another place you might want to check is http://www.tedsfishroom.com/drywood.html

What do others say? Dos it rot? Could you take it out if your away 2 months then put back in after 2 months?

Some wood sold as driftwood for aquatic use will rot (grape wood comes to mind) - you need to know what you're buying before you stick it in your tank.

My post from another recent thread.

I've bought several peices from RockArtSource on eBay. The wood quality is excellent, the descriptions are very accurate and tell you just what you need to know, all the wood is WYSIWYG and they are very easy to work with.
Here's a link to thier store:

That is fine for the aquarium, all of rockartsource's wood is...the pre-soaked stuff is really nice as it will not leech tannins in to the water for longer than a week or so. If you soak it yourself for a week before adding it the tank, you'll see no tannins at all.

I actually got the fake one, just in case, since it's my first driftwood. Always, later if I want another one, I can get a real one. What do you guys think about this one?

The XL Gnarled Root one. Will this fit well in a 20 gallon high, with tall plants in the back? Such as anacharis?

If you look back on the first page, I showed you the picture of that exact fake wood piece in my 20 gallon high.

With your pic, it was good, but could you post a couple more please :) Like maybe a litle closer up. Also, in your pic, it looked small! Isn't it supposed to be 14" long and like 7" tall at highest?

Good driftwood won't rot, but it will slowly disintegrate over time. A long time.

Yes, that is the actual size in a 20 high tank. It measures 5-1/2" x 14" long x 6" high. It wasn't very "filling" which is why I had that additional piece and the taller fake plants. These are the only other pictures I have:

I changed the tank to real driftwood and plants, so I can't get any other pictures as it looks different now.

Thanks for the pic. Yeah, we'll see, maybe I'll have to add something more in there... Do you still have the other stump of fake driftwood, on the left. If you don't useit, you know, I could maybe buy it :)
