Hello for starters..
I have a 50gal hex tank, established for about a month and half.
I would just like some advice on what i could possibly add next.
current stock:
Stock:
5 platys 3f/2m
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Blue Gourami
3 Clown Loaches
1 Common Pleco
all get along well with a little bit of chasing and nipping during feed times.
would just like suggestions that would work with my current community. If you could suggest some fish for me i will look at them and make my decision from thier.. Thanks

a couple of blind cave tetras might be an interesting addition considering you already have some hardy species and nothing too delicate.

I want to say also that your tank is beautiful. However, I do see a problem with your current stocking in your tank. The common pleco is going to outgrow that tank really fast. It can and will grow to 18-24 inches in no time which will be huge for that tank. He needs a tank of at a minimum 100 gallons. Instead I would invest in a bristlenose pleco. They max out at the 4-5 inch range and are very peaceful fish. They are also very busy all of the time with the algae. I would return the common pleco and get a bristlenose instead. The clown loaches will also get way too big for that aquarium. They like to be in groups so a minimum of three is recommended and because of the potential size that these fish can grow to I would also return them. One clown loache needs at least 200 gallons. If you want loaches, I would look into the yo-yo loaches. They stay under six inches each so you could have a small group of them. They are just a blast to watch. I would also return the rainbow shark. Again he will grow too large for your tank and ultimitely not be a happy camper.
There are other fish that will work with your set up. Do you have any other fish in mind or that interests you? If you can post them then we can advise you better on what is appropriate for your tank.
Please do not take this as offensive. It is not your fault that these fish are in your tank. More than likely no one told you about the potential of these fish and the size that they will grow to. A lot of stores give the wrong information to the customers. Tell us what you like and then we can help you better.

No offense takin. I have plans to upgrade tank in a few months, 100+. This tank and all was given to me by a coworker and with ill advice. I had to jump in this doing a fishy cycle and a run in with ich. I made it through with all the reading from this and other forums with very little life loss (1balashark more bad advice. 1 swordtail). This is my first tank setup and now I have the bug for it. After setting up and running I have researched more on my stock and understand size limitations.

I wish someone would give me a beautiful hex tank like that. It looks great.

Oh good. That sounds much better. 100 gallons will be a lot more room for them to play in. I am happy that you are taking the time to be cosientious and taking the time to reserch what you want for your tank.
