Hi. I would like to house a betta in the 1.5G. I know it's on the small size but the tank was given to me and I'd like to use it somehow. If not a betta, what fish could I house in a 1.5? Could I house guppies?

The tank had been used to house goldfish. There was no heater. I looked at a small 7.5 watt one at Walmart but it says not to use on anything less than a 2 gallon. I was thinking of the Neptune 25 watt for use up to 5 gallons. Is that overkill for the size of the tank?

Also I thought the tank did not come w/ a filter but I think it may come w/ an underground filter--theres a grid and a tube that connects to the power. Since my other tanks all have hanger on filters I'm not sure what to do w/ this thing. Do I need to buy another filter to hang over the edge?

Thanks!

Ma'am, a couple shrimp is all I can think of. My smallest tanks are 3g Eclipses, and they are just too small for much of anything.

You will probably not find a heater for such a small tank. It is really too small for a betta anyway, or any fish for that matter. But you could make a nice little shrimp and snail setup and put in some java moss and a java fern in the middle as a centerpiece.

as far as a heater you may be able to find a reptile-cage heating pad, just put the tank on it to keep it warm. however, it really is too small for everything except fballguy's idea. that would look nice. or some kind of fantasy mini-garden, like a tiny zen garden only in water. that could be beautiful. bonsai-tank.

I'd agree and say a few nice shrimp. You could go with about 3 amano shrimp or cherry red shrimp.

You have to wonder why they even make tanks that small...

An ADF would be ok.

i agree with momar. an african dwarf frog would be good. maybe even two. they hide a lot though so don't be disappointed if you don't see it for a few days. i ask my hubby if he's seen ours just to make sure that he's alive. i haven't seen mine in about 3 days but hubby saw him yesterday so i know he's ok.

I really like these types of small tanks for quaranteen/hospital tanks and even though I konw they are really too small for most fish, a short term stint in one to treat a fish is not going to hurt it much at all, assuming that it is a smaller fish, of course. I have a yellow lab cichlid in an eclipse three right now with a 10 gallon heater in it and it all works fine. Just make sure that the heater is not too long that it has to stick out of the tank alot or it will burn itself out or not be able to sense the water temp accuratly. I also like the reptile heating pad idea and it should work with such a small amount of water.

A dwarf frog or some shrimp are the only inhabitants I can think of as well, and I too wonder why they even bother making such small "fish tanks." Reminds me of watching people buy tiny fish bowls for bettas then wonder why it dies a week later.
