For a couple of days my betta has just stayed in one place. He looks bored and depressed. He's next to my 10 gallon so he can see other fish. When I feed him he comes up and eats but then he just goes back. What's wrong with him?
Oops, I didn't even tell you what size tank. He's in a 5 gallon. It's heated and filtered. The tank's been up for about 3 months. He's been in there for about 1 and a half months and the only other tankmates are a couple of amano shrimp.
Bettas aren't famous for swimming all over the world. Some of them just sit there most of the time, even when they're perfectly happy. I would only worry if his color was gone, he wasn't eating, and his fins were really clamped.
As long as he's eating, and he's not showing any signs of illness there isn't a whole lot that can be done. Try adding something to the tank decor wise. That usually brightens their day fast. New looking environment will usually spark lots of exploration on the part of the betta.
if you can get your hands on some prozac, just crush up a couple pills into powder and sprinkle them into the tank. now, when he starts feeling better, don't stop! treatment must be continuous to be successful.

I also would try moving it away from being able to see the other fish for a time to see if that helps. Might be thinking that the other fish are competition for him
Other than that, I think he would be fine and like everyone said, they are not really the most active fish in the world.
