I want to stock my 30 gal. with a few guppies ( hopefully to breed and fill up my brothers tank) and schooling fish, what are some good combos of fish?

a pair of pearl gouramis and my i suggest a black angelfish would look stunning together, not to mention that those are fairly hardy fish and get along, then maybe a dwarf pleco like a bristlenose, some cories and/or tetras, but the pearls and black angelfish are awesome!!!

good luck

well, the only schooling fish i can think of that you could do are cories or tetras

Tetras (Neons, Cardinals, just to name a few), Rasboras, White Cloud Mountain Minnows (I have some that mimic the behaviour of the Fathead Minnows in the tank so they always stay at the bottom, they didn't do that before), Cories (for the bottom, if you would like some)...

They seem to get along well. That's just my experience with Fancy guppies, platies and mollies.

That's pretty much it for what I can think of that would be okay with guppies and are schooling :) But, I'm sure there are alot of others.

Depends on what you mean by "BIGGER schools"... Like the range in the number of individuals in the school.

A trio of blind cave tetras is always an interesting addition. They are very active fish that are not only an interesting conversation piece, but are behaviorally very interesting.

They are interesting, but they are a bit more aggressive for the guppies and they use their sense of smell to find food, and also taste whatever they bump into. I'm not saying that you can't try it (as I have a peaceful Kribensis cichlid with some smaller tetras), but they might be idea bad for the guppies, and the frys (which I think you are trying to get).

I have had success in keeping Neons, Black Phantoms (I'm not sure if they are schoolers), Kribensis (a lone one, as a breeding pair would kill them, which is what happened to the two male guppies in with them), Otos, Cories, Platies (not schoolers, although like to be in groups, like the guppies), Mollies, Kuhli loaches (like company) and yoyo loachs.

To me, it seems like having two schools of 6-8 individuals per school with a school of 5-6 cories would be good... I'm not sure if 2 schools with 10-12 fishes in each school would be good, as you would have 5-6 cories and then also a few guppies (If 10-12 fishes per school is what you mean by "BIGGER schools").

I'm just trying to give you advice on what I think is correct.
