I have two 48" shop lights which I intend to strap together giving me one fixture. I then would like to mount that fixture over my 55 gallon tank. I can 't hang it, so it has to sit on the rims of the tank itself. Do they make "legs" that can be attached to this contraption that will then sit on the rims of the tank? The size of the double fixture will be 48"X 14". Any suggestions?

Build a hood. Hey, it's DIY forum right?:p

You should be able to fashion some legs yourself. The tank is 48"? A small pc of plywood (14" by however high you want it), on edge underneath each end, should rest on the rim of the tank right? Then use another pc of plywood at each end as a "cap" (same 14" but high enough to go from the rim of the tank to the top of the fixture) that screws into the ends of the shoplight fixtures and the "legs". Will that work for you?

I don't know if you want it to look nice or not? I built a frame first with redwood 2x2's (There like 1.5"x1.5") Once it sat right I screwed the lights in from the top and wrapped it with pine tongue and groove. I put mirror finish wrapping paper around the frame right before the pine and the whole inside looks like a mirror.
