One of our long finned leaopard danios has died. The only abnormalities apparent are red veining in the region of the stomach - please see image - and slight lateral curvature of the backbone.

It has been showing signs of unusual behaviour during the last 10 days - staying on its own and in a secluded part of the tank. The danio in question was introduced to the tank 8 weeks ago from a reliable source.

No other fish in the tank are displaying any signs of discomfort. Tank is 63 US gallons with very stable water chemistry for > 10 weeks. Ph 7.4; Ammonia 0; Nitrite 0; Nitrate 12.5. Weekly 25% water changes with dechlorinator.

Grateful for any advice as to the probable cause.

If there are no other signs of infection or stress on the living fish over the next week, chalk it up to that simple fact about life - creatures die. Fish, especially the lower sort like characins and cyprinids, often will just get sick and die for no good reason. Sometimes they don't even get sick - they are fine one minute and dead the next. It's just the way things go.

That being said, the only symptoms of disease you mention would be fish TB. That is highly contagious however and I would think that your other fish would have been showing signs of infection by now.

I had one died on me last week so I paid close attention to them for the last few days. I have noticed the a couples of males was chasing the females. I have no conclusion that this behaviour killed one of mine. As echoofformless mentioned, it is fish's life.

Many thanks for the advice. We will keep a close watch for the next couple of weeks.

its fire ran out of wood... sometimes fish just die.

i had a molly one what was one of the best specimines i have seen; a nice sail fin with a huge dorsal fin and the silver and orange colors fit together perfect... and one day he was fine one minute and then he just kicked
