I'm wondering if anyone knows a good source for holiday aquarium decor? I see that one member added a Santa ornament to the tank shown here http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89399

I found a site, but I didn't like the decorations. I'm looking specifically for Christmas village type ornaments safe for the aquarium. I've been googling all day and only found this:

http://youraquariumcenter.com/holiday_ornaments.html

The stuff on there is cute, but not quite what I was looking for. I'm hesitant to use decorations not specifically labelled safe for fish for fear I might use something not suitable for the aquarium.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Heh I wonder if Dawnie has seen that site!

I'm not sure about the decor though, it's hard to choose when you have a particular look in mind. Maybe decorate "around" the outside of the tank? Or change some plants to fake reds and such?

I've thought of possible doing that, adding colorform type Christmas stickers to the outside (I found that they sell something like these at certain pet shops). I generally like to keep a fairly natural looking tank, just fish and plants, but I thought I could get a little zany for Christmas. I always set up my under tree village and thought I could extend the theme to the tank.

Actually, the ornaments on that site are not bad--I really shouldn't have said I didn't like them. I might even get that Santa with his feet sticking up or maybe a snowman. I also liked the Halloween and St. Paddy's ones. I will keep searching, though for something closer to what I originally wanted.

Thanks for the suggestion.

no opinion on the christmas ornaments, but yikes, have you looked around at other parts of the site? check out the tank pages. very scary and very bad. i think i would not give them my business.

Didn't mean to give attention to a site that promotes bad ideas, but I was just pointing out that it was the only site I found that sold Christmas tank ornaments. I know the purist frowns on unnatural decorations, but I was just looking to have a little fun for the holidays. I'm surprised this isn't easier to find. At one point I thought I even saw such things when I wasn't looking for them, but I could be mistaken.

if you could find some aquarium-safe epoxy spray or sealant, you could use it on anything you want to put in the tank. see a nice statue, spray it, let it cure, and you're good to go. it is pretty weird that you haven't found more options.

i would get some shiny holiday wrapping paper and use it as a background for the tank, then you could always be seasonal and not have to worry about poisoning the fish. that could be fun. or even make your own holiday collage backgrounds.

i mainly pointed out the other tanks and things because if they don't care about the health and well-being of the fish in that section, not sure how well they test their products in the ornament section. some things (like the fourth of july and v-day planters?) seem to not be for tanks originally.

Thanks. Great suggestions. I'm leaning toward external decor as well at this point. I've seen that wrapping paper as background suggestion on some diy sites. I may try that. I did subsequently find some fiber optic aquarium-safe models of London, NY, LA, Chicago and San Fran whose windows light up in a pretty colorful way, but I'm not sure yet if I would go for those. We'll see.
