Hello to everyone, Im new :look:

Im trying to find out some info on Archerfish, I caint seem to find a reason for them to require a tank of 75gals+ so I figured Id ask the question here before going out and buying any. I think they are a pretty unique and I have had aquariums now for a couple years so Im not real new at the hobby just new to the web site.

Also any web sites would be helpful.
 
I have seen them in the trade, but not often.

Guesses: they're picky eaters or
they're messy (squirting water all over your floors & ballasts) or
they get pretty big (not that this deters people w/ 20g tanks from buying oscars)...
 
Most can reach at least 10 inches in size, so pretty darn big. Some can reach almost double that.

they are pretty cool gish from what ive read in my monthly magazine who had a big article on it. They have amazing accuracy and ive think i read they can jump pretty high, id love to have them but im not how suitable they are to the hobby
 
About them all being wild caught... Segrest Farms from Gibsonton, FL offers them as "tank-raised archerfish" and they arrive pretty small, not the 2-3" specimens you usually see...I am assuming they might be bred somewhere in the far east?
 
Yea right... 2 outa 3 stores around me sell them and I have never seen a 10" archer... Yes they are captive bred also. It is also not mandatory to have a half full aquarium for them to spit water at there food... They will eat flake food and pellets and frozen and also bugs that you throw in the water... and yes they are BW...
 
Well any idea where i might be able to purchase three of them, I have a 150gal that is almost finnished with a glass enclosure over the top for the bugs.

My next question is does anyone know where a guy can get mangrove looking roots that can be placed in the tank to give it a little more natural look. Also does anyone know if silk plants are a problem around the tank. Im thinking about using them instead of a real mangrove given that i havnt had much success with plants in a tank before.
