my kids loved seeing this huge snail once and wanted it so bad. but I was told by some that snails are bad for tanks, and you want to get rid on them not have one in your tank. my little boys love weird stuff, so I was wondering if we got a snail it would be ok in the tank.? thanks :)

Golf ball sized? That would be an applesnail. I think they make great pets. I'm not sure about putting them with a firemouth. If not, you could set up a small tank for one. Check out applesnail.net. They're really cool, and I bet boys would love em.

I don't know of any reason why snails would be bad for a tank, unless you have pond snails or another kind that reproduces like mad, and even then it is only a problem if you overfeed. Another problem would be if it died and started to decay in the tank, but anything dying would be a problem to a tank. Bigger snails like apple snails are much easier to control the population of. And they are very cool looking, so go ahead and get some!

thank you so much, now to find one again  seems the lame pet store we have here has either very little fish and tank mates, or you have to special order everything. I will tell the boys its ok !! thank you :)
