I want to get one for my son to have as a pet. He is only three but just love animals and is very good with them. Im not sure what one would make a better pet for him. I have had both in the past. Ok Guinea Pig I think might be a little skidish but should warm up with time. Also it would probably be willing to sit longer. Rat's are a lot less skidish and love to play. I doubt it would sit long with him but it would love to play games with him.

So I have know idea what one to pick. Obviously I will be doing most of the care with it so that doesnt much matter. What would you guys get?

Also please post comments after you vote!

Guinea Pig. Scittish at first, but calm in the long run....easier to find when they get loose.

How about none of the above, and get a ferret? They are so layed back. My friend had one that would lay on you and watch tv for hours.

Not true. We have 4 rats that will actually come to you when you call them. I've never seen a guinea pig come when it's called.

We have 3 dumbo rats and a hairless one. They're all sweeties.
However, we had (just lost) Guinea Pigs too. They do take much longer to warm up to you, but they're sweet as well. It all depends on what kind of pet you're looking for. Boring (guinea pigs...I still love them) and easy to catch, or super active and hilarious.

We made a "rat mansion". It's hilarious to watch them. They're so funny.
Make them "bob for veggies". Put frozen veggies in a bowl of water and watch them get them, its a good half hour of laughs and they love it.

ETA: Whichever one you get, buy some Bi-odor. It works wonders!

I HATE RODENTS. Just get a fish like a betta instead or a cat or rabbit. Rodents smell and poop a lot and are terrible and messy. Please take my advice, or you'll regret getting a rodent. And rabbits aren't rodents...

OR GET A CHINCHILLA! If you NEED a rodent, chinchillas are the coolest.
