I am really confuse right now... A few weeks ago, i went to my LFS and purchased a pair of Honduran red points. Within days, they started courting with a full breeding dress. On the third day, i saw the female inside a cave guarding and fanning a bunch of eggs. The fifth day after the eggs were fertilized, they hatched... so then, the female spent most of its time inside the cave to pick up any wrigglers that tried to wander off. On the contrary, the male spent most of its time guarding the perimeter of the cave and the tank while checking inside the cave once in a while. Everything was going well until today, i checked the tank and all of the unhatched eggs and wrigglers were all gone... since then, the male started harassing the female. The male constantly bites and chases the female around stressing it out. Is it possible that maybe the female ate all the eggs and wrigglers which angered the male or vice versa? Should i be concern and put a divider between them? Or, should i just let them be? Is it possible for a pair of fish such as red points to be unpaired again? BTW, they don't have any tankmates. Opinions please. Thanks in advance!

They're by themselves... i already put a divider between them because i don't want this beating to escalate into an ick infestation or a secondary infection. BTW, did yours breed again? How long did it take them? Thanks for the response!

They bred many many times. Sometimes they would go about 2 - 3 weeks betwen spawns but usually sooner.

The male would sometimes get annoyed and beat up the female a little. Nothing too major. Just chase her around and nip at her sides. Usually, I would feed them blood worms for a couple days and do a big water change and that would bring on the spawn.

So it is natural for the male to beat up the female? You can tell that I'm really new to these kind of stuff. BTW, what is a good sign for me to tell that they are ready to mate again?

Just an update. I saw them flaring up at each other(with an intense blue gill coloration) yesterday so, i decided to just take my chance and i pulled the divider out. So far so good. I'm hoping that they will form a stronger bond the second time around since the first they didn't get to bond with each other. The first time, they mated immediately after i placed the female in the tank. I started feeding them some freeze dried bloodworms. Thanks for the help Macfish and hopefully, i'll be able to post some pics soon.
