Hi. I have a bak pak 2 protein skimmer and it doesn't produce any skimmate. I have a mj1200 pump on it and the bubbles don't go all the way up the skimmer cup. I put purple up in my tank 4 days a week. Do you think the purple up is stopping the skimmer from producing?

The tank has been up and running for about 8 months now. I put the skimmer on the tank 1 week after I set up the tank. I am probably overstocked by about 1 fish and i know that I overfeed.

How do you have the maxijet attached? I also have a Pak Pak at it comes with a Rio standard but it still needs the ventri part and so does the maxi jet, just a different kind. Was it working with the maxijet before you added the purple up? What is your sality level?

The maxijet attaches the same way that the rio does. It also has the ventri part. It skimmed once about 3 months ago. I started using the purple up maybe a month ago. My salinity is 1.024

have to admit, when i first got my protein skimmer, i had to scrub it in warm soapy water first because it would not do anything at all..could just be the grease that is on the plastic from maufacturing? That is what it was on mine..After cleaning and rinsing well with fresh cold water, it worked a dream...

Niko is right about the cleaning is mine has too much algae inside, which is common in the bak pak since it is a clear plastic, it does not skim well. Also the ventri port I have attached to the maxijet clogged easily, and for me did not allow enough gph into the skimmer. If your ventri skimmer is like mine it has slits around the cone but these do not enter into the powerhead so the only water entering was through 3 tiny slits near the air tube. So I took the funnel cone thing that makes the inlet larger, it came with the maxi jet, and attached it to inlet and ventri. The ventri slides all the way into this adapter so all those slits are now allowing more water/air into the skimmer.
