Hi all, new to AC here with a question: Does anybody have much experience with leporinus fasciatus?

The reason I ask is that I have one that I've had for almost a year and a half, and it has grown a lot and is very active, easy to care for and eats just about anything it can catch.

The only problem I've found is that the sucker seems to like to be the big man on the block. Just recently it has killed a shovelnose cat :( (about 6") and a tinfoil barb that was also about 6" that I had raised from about half an inch .

Anybody else had any similar experiences?

I have had some experience with fish. Mine too picked on my shovelnose even when it was only 3-4 inches long. It was constantly going after its whiskers thinking they were food. So I threw him in a cichlid tank where it did quite well with my JD's and convicts. It wasnt the dominant fish but It had some attitude. It would stand up to my 9 inch JD by pointing its nose on an angle into the gravel and not backing down. Somewhat entertaining.

It ate anything I put in the tank for the most part. I sold it to my LFS when it got almost 10 inches long and my JD's were starting to breed.

I would buy one again if I had the room.

Mine is 13" and definitely a nipper but not a killer. He nips at the clown loaches when they try to lay on him. Mine has not really been a problem. Maybe because he is in a 125? I don't think you said how big your tank was. Mine stays under his overhang of slate most of the time. Best of luck, they are great fish!
