I have a 3.5 gallon tank and I am looking at different types of fish for it. I was introduced to male fancy guppies and was wondering how many of them could live in a three gallon tank?

Hi,
Only one. But if you get Endler's Livebearer (which kinda look like guppies but smaller) you could get two or three.

1-2 guppies only.
What sort of filter? I have a 10litre tank (less than 3g) and I made an oversized tank top trickle filter for it and my daughter had 3 guppies in that for a couple of years... Mind you they were 'wild' guppies which are a bit smaller than store bought guppies...
Guppies were introduced to Australia to eat mosquitoes (I think) and are now in our local streams.

I personally think that 2 would do fine. Then again im not an expert on guppies, but i see that working out well.

I'd try two, but you are going to need regular water changes and keep up with the tank well...

if you want cool tropical fish, maybe (mebs) you should try to get a larger tank.

how you siphon the gravel once a week at least, and for your size tank you should be taking out almost 1.5 gallons

tetras do best in a school of at least six, so youd have to change your stock around a bit
3 platys or 3 guppies
6 cardinals

Heres an idea for a 10 gallon tank: 6 cardinal tetras and 2 dwarf gouramis......possible?

I would go with 1 dwarf gourami and maybe 2 or 3 pygmy cories, panda cories, or otos. If you put 2 dwarf gourami's in a tank that small, one will most likely get bullyied(sp?) to death. The other fish are fine.

what about 6 card tetras, 1 dwarf gourami, and 1 other thing

What one other thing? To change things up a bit you could get several shrimp to help clean the bottom. They also have very interesting antics.

Sammie7, I am sorry to inform you of this, but dwarf gouramis do fine if paired in a tank.

If they are paired male to female possibly, it would still depend on the individual fish. The male might harass the female. Most dwarf gouramis found in stores are male. Thus, it would probably be safe to say the person asking whether this would work or not was refferring to two males.

What can I have with a dward gourami and six cardinal tetras in a 10g? I would prefer something that is like a fish and moves, like not a shrimp or something.

I would say nothing other than a few bottom feeders, to keep the bioload low. Perhaps a small group of catfish 3 or 4. You would have to get the small ones though as a 10 gallon tank doesn't afford a lot of ground room. The only other small fish I can think of are schooling fish. How do you like:

otos: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_oto.php

I like the panda corys....how many could I have?
dougie

You could probably do 3, but only if you dont want many other fish. Cory Cats highly prefer to be in schools of 3 or more.

6 cardinals and 1 dwarf gourami is about as much as a 10 gallon can handle. Maybe a snail, or a couple of small shrimp, but no more fish.

I woul dhave to agree. If you want panda corys, you can get three, but no gouramis. 5 Cardinals and 3 Panda Corys might be nice...
