Well, not me personally but my favourite fancy goldfish Lily. I've recently come to the end of my fishy cycle & nothing has gone wrong all the time it was cycling - both fish have been very happy but now.. i've noticed a little patch of white fuzz on her top fin & the very end of one of her fancy tail 'feathers' Its only just come as i've checked them both daily while the tank has been cycling & theres been nothing until 2 days ago... I've treat the tank with Finrot & Fungus meds, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good recovery :fairy:

Does finrot/fungus hurt the fish? She isn't rubbing against anything & seems ok in herself but its still a worry that she could be feeling ill...

Just monitor the fish's behavior. Is the other fish showing any signs of illness?
If you notice even after a medicinal fungal treatment that the fish are continuing to act sickly you might want to be aware that the bacterial affliction called columnaris is often mistaken for a fungal infection due to like physical symptoms (fin deterioration, white patches or lesions etc.).
Columnaris is deadly and needs to be treated with an antibiotic effective on gram neg. bacterium such as Maracyn. I have also successfully treated this illness with Coppersafe -- not too many people are keen on this treatment because of the belief that traces of copper are forever present in the tank after usage and negatively affect the fish in the long run. For me, I have found it to be fast and effective and it does not cloud the water.
Hope you find this helpful (sorry so long winded) and good luck with your goldies! :)
Forgot to add - Don't use Coppersafe with inverts!!!! May also damage live plants...

It is Interpet finrot & fungus treatment. It was the one recommended at the pet store....

There is your problem. Never trust the Pet Stores.

No all kidding aside take boofish2 suggestion and double treat. Check with a vet to make sure that they are both safe to use together. I have found that a simple call to the vet you use for your other animals will give very good sugestions and they usaly don't charge for advice unless it intitles a visit. I have even taken in photo's of sick fish to our vet and he has usaly been able to tell me right away what I should treat with. I do the photo's when I am already seeing him for something else.

I don't know why but nobody seems to use vets on there scaled freinds. I had surgery done on a fish one time. I am not saying that you should take your gold fish to the vet just that you could call them and get advice for free if they are your regular vet.

If I treat my fish I treat them for everything...Fungus, parisites, worms all internal and external. I have never had any problems doing this but I don't remember the meds I used to use as I have not had a sic fish in a long time.

Good luck and good luck on your friend.

Well... 5 days later & no sign of white stuff on fins or tail feathers :bday:

They are both fine.. & back to looking perfect once again.. :dive2:

I'm debating whether or not to treat again in another two days. It says on the bottle 'after a 30% WC, redose if needed after 7 days'..

Do I just to be on the safe side.. or do I just get the carbon filter in there & get it med free again?
