The only german gold rams I can find around here are males. I can on occasion find female german blue rams. Are they compatible and will they breed together?

fishcatch is correct.. the gold ram is a color morph of the species ramerezii.(blue ram)
if you find a gold female you should be fine.
If you are looking to try to get a pair. the general course of action is to get two females with one male..when a pair bond forms remove the extra female. aggression could become an issue to the 'third wheel'.

AAHHH!!! My LFS had a female gold angel ram I a guy beat me to it by 2 seconds!! So I got a female blue ram instead. She is only about an inch long and has a big fat pink belly, hopefully full of eggs. I can't wait until QT is over now.
