help needed ,I upgraded my bio life trickle filter to a external fluval 305 and noticed the fish have stoped eating?.The tank is 45 gallon with 5 large cichlids

did you use your filter media from your old filter? If not you may have destroyed your good bacteria. And there may be an ammonia spike. Have you checked your water parameters?

I have put the old filter back into the tank and kept the external filter running
hopfully it will wright its self

you can put any media from the old filter in the tank or the new filter and disconnect the old filter. If you let the old filter media dry out or cleaned it with tap water you destroyed the good bacteria already.

probably just destroyed a portion of the beneficial bacteria, they can become "stressed" for lack of a better word. Probably just a mini cycle but watch out for a nitrite spike as IMO I have more trouble with the following nitrite spike than the ammonia.
