because they are bottom dwellers, would it be reasonable for me to get a couple of cory cats for my tank given my current stock? i don't want to overstock my tank so i wanted to get some input before i did anything.

I would say no. Cories are very sensitive to poor water conditions and that tank is quite full.

Hi,

In my opinion you don't have any more room in your tank for Cories. And Cories are best kept in groups, not couples.

Happy fish keeping!

I honestly don't think they are that sensitive to poor water conditions. My brother has 2 in his ten gal. and he hasn't cleaned it in months and you can barely see through the water (poor babies, I know) and the cories are alive and thriving.

NO WATER CHANGES?

As far as adding fish do your current fish act as though they are starved for space? Do you have any bottem dwelers? If not and your levels are around 0 then add another filter or upgrade your current filter and add your cories.

i don't have any bottom dwellers which is why i was asking about the cories. my levels are 0ppm for amonia and nitrite, 10ppm for nitrate. my current filter is a biowheel penguin (i forget the model # but it's for up to 30gl) and it's brand new (got it in the beginning of my cycle). my fish don't act like they are starved for space. they swim freely and seem to interact pretty well with eachother. the only fish that spends any amount of time on the floor of the tank is the pleco but then again it's only when i give him a wafer. i really don't want to push the limits of my tank and do anything that will adversely affect my current fish. this was more of a research question than anything and if the general concensus is that i will be overstocked then i won't get them.

Do you have a picture or know the L number of the dwarf leopard pleco? I don't know of any pleco that is called that, so you may have a monster on your hands.

I had 2 peppered cory which thrived in my rainbowfish tank over the last 2 years. I've moved them to another tank and added 4 of the same cory. All 6 continue to do their own thing most of the time, so I don't know if they car much about being is a group.

They are very low load, so I personally think you could add a couple to any tank that currently had good parameters.

And they are tough. Our two survived the great nitrite spike of 2004 when our water supply went bad on us and killed many tetra and gourami.
